The hour

How class is structured

  1. 0–20 min

    Standing: balance, strength, posture

The class opens on your feet with balance challenges. Hold on to something sturdy whenever you need to — safety first.

  2. 20–50 min

    Floor: strength and resistance

Progressive loading with dumbbells, bands, or ankle weights. Joanne explains what each movement is asking of your bones.

  3. 50–60 min

Floor: safe stretches for key muscle groups

Safe mobility and core work, with spine-sparing modifications offered throughout.

  4. +20–30 min

    Ask the therapist

Optional Q&A for live attendees — bring your questions, or ask Joanne to look at how you’re doing an exercise. Stay for it, or head off; entirely up to you.

Live attendees can stay for an optional 20–30 minute “ask the therapist” Q&A afterward — bring your questions, or ask Joanne to look at how you’re doing an exercise.

Have this within reach

  • Handheld dumbbells

Used in most classes. Start light — around 2 lb — and progress gradually.

  • Non-elastic stretching strap

    Used every other week.

  • Resistance bands

Used roughly every third class; the dates are listed with each class.

  • Ankle weights

    Strongly recommended when you’re ready.

  • Foam roller

36" long, up to 6" diameter. Optional — Joanne explains how to modify the exercises if you don’t have one.
