Bone health

Osteoporosis is not something you simply accept

Joanne was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2009. Rather than treat it as inevitable, she built a comprehensive program designed to help prevent — and in some cases reverse — bone loss.

What osteoporosis actually is

Osteoporosis means “porous bone” — a reduction in both the density and the quality of bone that greatly increases the risk of fracture. Most people have no symptoms at all until they break a bone. You can’t feel your bones getting weaker.

Exercise is proven to be critical for bone health. But not all exercise is equal, and this is the part that gets missed: some common exercises and gym machines can actually increase the risk of spinal fracture for someone with low bone density. Knowing which movements to avoid matters as much as knowing which ones to do.

Four ways in

However you like to learn

Live classes

Twice-weekly online group classes — the core of the program, and where most people start.

Comprehensive Bone Health Course

A fully-accredited, in-depth course for physical therapists and for patients who want the whole picture.

Public workshops

Educational sessions for community organizations, medical groups, studios, and libraries.

The monthly blog

An evidence-based post every month on the research that actually affects your bones.

Results

What consistency looks like

No one can promise you a number. These are students describing their own experience.

“After less than a year of classes, my DXA testing showed my spine bone density improved 3.6% and my hip 4.4%. The improved core and upper body strength keeps my back pain at bay.”

Individual results vary.

Laura F.Strong Bones student

“I've tried several exercise classes, but not until I joined Strong Bones do I feel like I've found a home. She makes me understand the reason behind every movement. Her instructions are all evidence based. There is no pain, no exhaustion, just good physical progression — and on top of that, her classes are very reasonably priced.”
